Creo Ansys Simulation is CAE technology that engineers use to see how well a model will perform under real-world operating conditions. If you’re not already familiar with CAE, we posted a short explainer blog here.

Thanks to a partnership between PTC and Ansys (a leader in simulation and analysis software), design engineers can now use Ansys’ renowned CAE technology within their Creo CAD system. That is, you can run simulation studies in Creo invoking the same meshers and solvers found in Ansys flagship analysis products.

In a nutshell, Creo Ansys Simulation is an easy-to-use, fully featured, high-fidelity simulation tool that supports thermal, structural, and modal studies. Plus, it includes automatic meshing as well as advanced options for manual mesh control.

With this technology, designers can find problems earlier—when issues are easier and less expensive to fix. Another benefit: engineers can use simulation to produce higher quality products that cost less to manufacture.

What New in Creo 8?

In Creo 8, PTC continues its investment in Creo Ansys Simulation with several enhancements. Here’s a summary:

  • The Solver Settings dialog box now includes:
    • A Reset button that changes the solver settings back to the default.
    • An option to enable/disable large deflection.
  • License assignment in Creo Ansys Simulation is automatic.
  • Mesh controls can be deleted from within the Model Tree, thus returning them to default.
  • Mesh diagnostics are now available from within the Process Manager.
  • When exporting CAS data to Ansys Mechanical—transferring geometry, material, and boundary conditions—a PTC-specific format is added (.casdat). To enable this, set the enable_ansys_export_mechanical option in config.pro to Yes.
