PTC Brings Cloud-Native CAM to Onshape with CloudMilling Acquisition

PTC has acquired the CloudMilling™ cloud-native computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) solution, the industry’s only cloud-native CAM solution, to bring important CAM functionality to its Onshape® product development platform.

Like Onshape, CloudMilling was designed for the cloud, offering engineers and machinists a modern CAM solution that is accessible anywhere from any device.

“Delivering CAM functionality as part of Onshape will help our customers create even more as they demonstrate what’s possible with cloud-native product development,” said David Katzman, Senior Vice President of Onshape. “CloudMilling has developed a solution that offers the high-quality cloud experience and benefits that our Onshape customers expect. CloudMilling offers important usability features for machinists and engineers, including:

  • 2-Axis and 5-Axis tool paths that can support virtually any job, generated in a matter of seconds
  • A fully integrated tool library that automatically keeps track of all your tools from any workspace, without requiring additional steps
  • Real-time visualization capabilities for following tool paths, tracking stock changes, and verifying material removal
  • Workspaces that can handle hundreds of parts simultaneously, each with their own job and related operations
