What is product data management (PDM)?


Product data management is the use of software to help organizations connect and communicate product information across globally distributed teams where multiple product development tools may be used. What is the difference between product data management (PDM) and product lifecycle management (PLM)?

PLM is the foundation for the digital thread, delivering supply chain agility, business continuity, data governance, and traceability.

What is the difference between enterprise resource planning (ERP) and product data management (PDM)?

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a system that helps organizations manage financials, logistics, connect suppliers and partners, and reliably plan and schedule essential manufacturing processes. On the other hand, product data management (PDM) is a system that helps manage product-related data and processes. It enables teams to collaborate globally across concurrent design environments. Engineers are able to manage and track reviews and change orders, and even generate bills of materials (BOM).
